Displacement

Design and realization of the photobook Displacement by Giovanni Cocco with text by Caterina Serra.

The design of the book "Displacement" was designed with the aim of stimulating a sense of disorientation in those who leaf through it. In the story, made up of images and texts, the photographer Giovanni Cocco and the writer Caterina Serra describe the change in life in the city of L'Aquila after the 2009 earthquake. Through their gaze, one perceives the disappearance of the urban center and the movement of inhabitants of the "New Towns". Page after page the loss of that intimate sense of belonging that characterizes a community emerges.

The book, edited by Tiziana Faraoni, creates disorientation through her photographic editing, but also thanks to some unconventional graphic choices of the layout: the Swiss paperback with upside-down flipping of the internal book block, the titling that slides from the spine to the fourth cover as well as on the internal spine, the black edges of the pages and the leaflet which alternates between two formats and types of paper for the images and for the texts.
